Water Damage Restoration

Determining Water Damage Costs

Each water damage loss is unique. Here are the five basic factors that help explain the pricing associated with restoration work.

Each water damage loss is unique, therefore your water damage mitigation/restoration estimate may vary. There are no standardized costs for any sort of water damage mitigation/restoration, but there are five basic factors that can help to explain the pricing associated to the work that may be required for each project.

Let's review what goes into restoration pricing so you can be prepared on what to expect:

1

The Type of Water Loss

Category 1

Clean Water

Less "risky" water that comes from indoor plumbing.

Least Expensive
Category 2

Grey Water

Water from areas that may contain physical, chemical, or biological contaminants โ€” such as laundry or kitchen appliances. May cause illness if exposed.

Moderate Cost
Category 3

Black Water

Highly toxic water containing sewage or toxic debris. The most dangerous and difficult to handle.

Most Expensive

The risk of contamination of building materials and exposure to pathogenic bacterial, fungal, or viral organisms increases as the classification of water increases. The cost of water damage mitigation/remediation increases with it.

Categories of Water Damage

Category 1 โ€” Clean Water

  • Occurs when a water line, faucet, toilet tank, or drinking fountain leaks or breaks.
  • Water is not contaminated with debris or pathogens.
  • If not cleaned up quickly or efficiently, it can turn into a bigger problem.
  • Sometimes referred to as clean water damage.

Category 2 โ€” Grey Water

  • Sometimes referred to as grey water.
  • Has substances in it that may cause discomfort or illness if ingested.
  • Comes from sources such as washing machines, dishwashers, or toilets without urine or feces.

Category 3 โ€” Black Water

  • Sometimes referred to as unsanitary or black water.
  • Contains contaminants that are unclean and dangerous.
  • If ingested, this water could lead to serious illness or death.
  • Often comes from a sewer backup, toilet backup, or water that has become stagnant and full of bacteria growth.

The Size of the Area Affected

The height of the water is significant and so too is the size of the space that is contaminated. Your water damage restoration estimator will calculate the cost of any project using the square footage of the structure as a base.

3
๐Ÿ”

The Extent of the Damage

The extent of the damage will guide the cost of the project. Changing out carpet is much more expensive and requires additional time as opposed to restoring a carpet that has sustained clean water damage. Restoring a water damaged wall that already shows signs of dry rot and mold infestation will be costly and time consuming.

Type of Building Materials Required

Your water damage mitigation/restoration estimate will reflect costs associated with restoring each type of building material within your home. If you need your imported Italian tile replaced, it's going to cost a great deal more than using a more standard material.

Guidelines

At Clean Indeed, we follow the standards of care of the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC).

Some Additional Things to Expect

โš ๏ธ

Before entering a house filled with standing water, turn off the power โ€” but never turn the power off while standing in water.

๐Ÿ”ง

A company representative will inspect and evaluate the affected area, often using water-sensing equipment to determine the source of the problem and the extent of the damage.

๐Ÿ’ง

Restoration includes pumping and drying the affected areas, and drying, sanitizing, removing or deodorizing materials as needed โ€” and this will be reflected on your estimate.
